February 5-7, 2025 | Manila – UCLG ASPAC attended the Government of the Philippines hosted the Open Government Partnership (OGP) Asia and the Pacific Regional Meeting in Manila. The meeting was participated in by 768 participants from national and local governments, civil society, and partners.

UCLG ASPAC Secretariat presented the Organisation’s work on open government at the session on “Local Leaders Roundtable: Driving Open Government Action and Ambition in Asia and The Pacific”. This included UCLG ASPAC’s collaboration with Open Government Indonesia in providing training for local governments on international cooperation in 2023 and inclusive city development through cooperation in 2024, development of Gender-Responsive Participatory Budgeting training module with Federation of Canadian Municipalities, and support for the development of Voluntary Local Review and Voluntary Subnational Review. OGP is encouraged to provide an enabling environment, including capacity building and legal framework, to support decentralised cooperation.
The OGP Asia-Pacific Regional Meeting welcomed incoming OGP CEO Mr. Aidan Eyakuze who committed to re-energising the movement dedicated to shaping a better future. The meeting also acknowledged new members of the OGP, including two national governments (Maldives and Timor Leste) and 10 local governments (Metsamor Municipality, Madiun City, West Java Province, Yogyakarta Special Region, Osh City, Fuvahmulah City, Baguio City, Larena Municipality, Quezon City, and Tagbilaran City). The meeting also encouraged participation to the Open Gov Challenge which is a call to action on the 10 areas of open government, namely access to information, anti-corruption, civic space, climate and environment, digital governance, fiscal openness, gender and inclusion, justice, media freedom, and public participation.
