UCLG ASPAC Inspires Local Leaders Towards Sustainability

February 10-13, 2025 | Manila – UCLG ASPAC Secretary General attended the League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) General Assembly attended by over 1,000 Philippine Mayors. The Assembly was held on February 10-13, 2025 taking the theme “Legacy of Leadership, Sustainable Future: Leaders Building Together for National Progress.” UCLG ASPAC was present to show support to LMP’s commitment to foster sustainable development and good governance.

In her presentation, UCLG ASPAC Secretary General Dr. Bernadia Irawati Tjandradewi highlighted that leaders must be visionary, collaborative, and innovative to drive sustainability and align with national goals. She also acknowledged the importance of empowering women leaders and providing capacity development for Mayors. She concluded by presenting her five-zero vision: zero inequalities; zero poverty; zero crime, violence, disaster and accident; zero greenhouse gas emissions and zero pollution; and zero intolerance and zero discrimination.

During the open forum, Mayor Glenn Flores of Alaminos Municipality shared that they are developing VLR. Mayor Glenda Aguilar of Caramoran Municipality asked how local governments can adopt innovative technologies that promote sustainable development while ensuring that they are affordable and accessible to all. UCLG ASPAC Secretary General responded that smart governance is not just about the technology but should also improve transparency and accountability and build trust with the communities.

The LMP General Assembly was organised prior to the Philippine national and local elections on May 12, 2025. LMP, led by its National President Mayor JB Bernos, is an active member of UCLG ASPAC.
