December 2022 | UCLG ASPAC supported Jakarta for the development of Voluntary Local Review (VLR) in 2022, following the completion of the VLR of Surabaya. In the aim to produce SDGs voluntary reporting in the capital city, UCLG ASPAC initiated the collaboration with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to work with Jakarta provincial government for the provincial’s first VLR. As the capital of Indonesia, Jakarta is at the forefront in mainstreaming the SDGs targets in the development planning as well as in achieving the SDGs. With the most advanced infrastructure in terms of institutional capacity and human resources, Jakarta has all it needs to foster the foundation of upholding sustainable development.
UCLG ASPAC led the facilitation and close consultation with the Ministry of Development Planning (Bappenas), Jakarta provincial government, as well as local stakeholders, to ensure its validity and accuracy. In the VLR, Jakarta provincial government depicted its tireless effort in fighting COVID-19 with a collaboration strategy. It also described several sectors impacted by the pandemic. With a focus on Goal 1, Goal 3, Goal 4, and Goal 17, VLR of Jakarta showed the city’s progress in achieving the SDGs amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. It provided examples of good collaboration between local government and non-state actors in addressing the impact affected by the pandemic and how the government worked hard to achieve those four goals to build back better and recover stronger.
