Paving Way towards the Success of the 7th UCLG World Congress in Daejeon

26 May 2021 | DAEJEON – Local government of Daejeon concluded the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Daejeon Metropolitan City Government and Taejon Christian International School (TCIS) to ensure the successful hosting of the 7th UCLG World Congress in 2022. Daejeon City and TCIS agreed to build mutual collaboration through exchanges and cooperation with excellent human resources of the school. Mr. Deuk-won Reuw, Executive Director General of Daejeon city; Mr. Michael Moimoi, Head of TCIS; and relevant officials attended the signing ceremony.

The agreement incorporates the appointment and operation of honorary ambassadors for the 2022 UCLG Congress, promotion on social media in foreign countries, distribution of leaflets, materials on TCIS newspapers and bulletin boards, provision of opportunity for attending special sessions and participation in cultural performances.

Taejon Christian International School is a foreign school established in Daejeon that offers an international Baccalaureate degree programme as an integrated course for kindergarten, elementary, middle and high schools (1st to 12th graders). Currently, the number of students is about 400 with 180 high school students.

Daejeon City is also planning to sign MoUs with universities in Daejeon to attract attention to the UCLG Congress, promote and prepare the Congress domestically and abroad. In addition to increasing citizens’ interest through various events, Daejeon is actively preparing for promotion overseas through approach to sister and partner cities, Korean embassies in foreign countries, and honorary ambassadors of international students.

Currently, Daejeon City plans to officially launch the organising committee in July and prepare in earnest to hold the Congress. Sufficient rooms and transportation vehicles for participants, various tourism programmes and relevant events have been prepared. Daejeon city also ensures that the hosting of the Congress is safe from COVID-19. Daejeon is looking forward to seeing the great interest and participation in the 7th UCLG Congress in 2022.
