Mayor Lani Mercado-Revilla of Bacoor: Serving the City and the People

LEADING the Bacoor district, Mayor Lani Mercado ensured the improvement of local development in various aspects. Her works also received awards from various bodies focusing on governance and appreciating individuals in politics.  

Under the leadership of Mayor Lani, the city government of Bacoor launched ‘Ate Lani Caravan’ programme, an initiative aimed at eradicating malnutrition in the City of Bacoor, that includes health and nutrition programmes for pregnant women and their children. It takes form in the series of mobile social and health services that aim at bringing the local government closer to the people. The programme is dedicated to people who cannot go to the city hall, particularly the poor people. Under the programme, the city government provides free services such as medical and dental check-ups, late registration of civil documents, seminars, and livelihood programmes as well as ID application. Job fairs are now also made more accessible to the people as the caravan will be making the rounds throughout the city. Various resources also recorded that during the launching, the city government services provided 220 free haircuts, 300 prescribed eyeglasses and 192 denture prescriptions, 264 applicants in the jobs fair, and 840 were served hot meals and massage services, among others. 

Mayor Lani has also expressed her concern in the field of education through the scholarship programme. The programme targets valedictorians, persons with disabilities, as well as students of private high and senior high schools.  

The works of Mayor Lani and the city’s achievements have been acknowledged by various parties, reflected through various awards received by the city. In 2019, for instance, the city of Bacoor received a recognition for Good Financial Housekeeping for its efforts in advancing principles of accountability and transparency in local governance (2018) by the Department of the Interior and Local Government of the Philippines and Provincial Government of Cavite.  

The efforts of the city government to help cleaning up Manila Bay also received positive response. The efforts taken by Bacoor City passed the Local Government Unit Compliance Assessment conducted by the Department of Interior and Local Government under the Manila Bay Clean-Up, Rehabilitation, and Preservation Programme.  

Mayor Lani Mercado received the “Most Outstanding Mayor Award” for 2018 from the award-giving body Superbrands Marketing International Inc. (SMI). The award praised the ‘Alagang Ate Lani’ programme that has gained the trust and respect of Mayor Lani’s constituents.
