Makati Commences its First Voluntary Local Review

December 3, 2024 | UCLG ASPAC welcomed the initiative of the City Government of Makati in strengthening its commitment to the Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development as they announced the beginning of their Voluntary Local Review (VLR) under the leadership of Mayor Mar-Len Abigail Binay on December 3, 2024.  UCLG ASPAC has agreed to provide support to the city government in the development process. Once completed, Makati’s VLR will be the first from Metro Manila.

In support of SDGs localisation, UCLG ASPAC Secretary General Dr. Bernadia Irawati Tjandradewi reminded that in monitoring the progress of SDGs implementation, the VLR should not be a standalone report but be integrated in the Voluntary National Review (VNR), especially with the Philippines submitting its Fourth VNR in 2025.

To date, UCLG ASPAC has been providing assistance in the development of 13 VLRs and 7 VSRs (Voluntary Subnational Reviews) in the Asia-Pacific region. UCLG ASPAC will continue its commitment to encourage and support cities from monitoring progress on the SDGs to engaging various stakeholders in the process.
