Likupang Courtesy Visit: Discovering Solar Panel Farm in the Hidden Paradise

December 15, 2023 | UCLG ASPAC, represented by Secretary General Dr. Bernadia Irawati Tjandradewi with her team, conducted a courtesy visit to North Minahasa Regency (Indonesia), as part of the preparation for the upcoming UCLG ASPAC Executive Bureau Meeting 2024 planned to be held on April 23-25.  The meeting managed to agree on several key areas.

Site visit to Likupang Power Plant. Coming up as one of the pioneers of the solar power generator, North Minahasa Regency has been upgrading its electrical power source by developing a Photovoltaic Power Generation System, named Likupang Solar Power Plant.  This solar power plant is the result of a bold commitment by the Indonesian government and private investors to capitalise on the enormous solar resources in North Minahasa.  The Likupang Photovoltaic Solar Power Plant’s commitment to environmental preservation is one of its most significant advantages.  This plant drastically cuts carbon emissions by using solar energy, reducing the carbon footprint associated with traditional energy sources.  To blow up this promising futuristic energy source, Likupang Power Plant will be exposed to participants of the 2024 UCLG ASPAC Executive Bureau Meeting.

Sustainable Tourism and Creative Economy. In the discussion, it was also agreed that Sustainable Tourism and Creative Economy will be highlighted in the upcoming UCLG ASPAC Executive Bureau Meeting 2024.  Participants will also have the opportunity to visit the eco-tourism villages, experience the boat tours, and see the beauty of Likupang, one of the five super priorities of tourism destinations as declared by the Government of Indonesia. North Minahasa is easily accessed by international flights with destinations to Menado from various airports, including Guangzhou, Jeju, Narita, Singapore, and so on.

The North Minahasa Regency welcomes international and national delegates, Mayors and Governors to participate in the 2024 Executive Bureau Meeting and the Forum to be held at Likupang in North Minahasa.
