LEAD4SDGs: From SDGs Committee at District Level, Pilot Innovative Actions, to Capacity Building Activities

UCLG ASPAC LEAD4SDGs Programme completed various activities during November – December 2022 and achieved various milestones from SDGs Committee at the district level, pilot innovative actions, to completion of capacity building activities.

November 24 & December 20, 2022 | Balochistan – The last phase of training sessions covered nine remote and overlooked districts of Balochistan, including the districts of Kech, Panjgur, Awaran, Gwadar, Naseerabad, Jaffarabad, Sohbatpur, Jhal Magsi and, Dera Bugti. At this point, more than 400 government officials including 20% of women have been trained on SDGs localisation, implementation, monitoring, and reporting at the district level across all the districts of Sindh and Balochistan.

This unique intervention aided the government officials from the departments of Education, Health, Planning, and Development and Local Government to develop policies and plans in line with the prioritised SDGs as per the need of their community.

November 22, 2022 | Kech – Due to the efforts of the LEAD4SDGs Programme with the collaboration of LCA Balochistan the Deputy Commissioner’s Office formed the District SDGs Committee for Kech concerning the notification of the Planning and Development Department, Government of Balochistan for the constitution of District SDGs Committees in every district of Balochistan.

In a consultative roundtable meeting with DC Kech (Mr. Bashir Ahmed), the role of the District SDGs Committee has been devised as per the terms of references is deliberated to raise awareness about SDGs and create district ownership of SDGs. It was suggested that the LEAD for SDGs Project will support the implementation of SDGs through development plans of the districts in line with SDGs.

During the consultation with DC, Kech, it was conferred that Pilot innovative actions are one of the salient areas of the LEAD for SDGs Project alongside advocacy, lobbying, capacity building and knowledge sharing. The LEAD for SDGs is willing to deliver through SDGs mainstreamed actions in pilot districts. The role of the District SDGs Committee and other stakeholders linking to pilot innovative actions has been devised. These actions shall be developed to generate local resources through public-private partnerships.

December 16, 2022 | Quetta – The Quetta District Alliance on SDGs arranged an innovative Radio Awareness Program on Climate Action #SDGs13 under the LEAD4SDGs Programme. The show crisply targeted emerging climate challenges, impact reduction and way forward in line with the SDGs Localisation in Balochistan. Environmental Expert (M. Akhtar, Associate Professor, Department of Environmental Sciences, BUITEMS) facilitated the show with constructive solutions to climate challenges.
