16, 18, 22 August 2022 | UCLG ASPAC, in collaboration with the Gyeonggi Provincial Government and Gyeonggi International Peace Centre, and the Korea Association of International Development and Cooperation (KAIDEC), invited cities and local governments within the Asia-Pacific region to a series of capacity building training programmes under the framework of the Humanitarian, Development, Peace (HDP) Nexus Committee. The programme has established a cooperative network through knowledge and information sharing and focused on creating a foundation for discovering the Official Development Assistance (ODA) pilot projects that promote humanitarian, development, and peace. The training programmes were conducted through lectures and practices on strengthening practical capabilities such as international development cooperation project proposal and project management capabilities.
The training programme was conducted in several stages: Stage 1 (16, 18 August 2022, online) focused on Training for General Understanding and Stage 2 (22 August 2022) on Brainstorming and Presentation.
On Stage 1, participants received training on ‘Understanding International Development Cooperation and HDP Nexus’, ‘Understanding Business Proposal Preparation’, and ‘Understanding Project Design Matrix (PDM) and Theory of Change (ToC)’. In Stage 2, participants received sharing on the need for youth leaders to improve the quality of rivers contaminated by organic waste in Jayapura region (Indonesia), the capacity-building project to provide better public services for Semarang officials, and for youth leaders as a crisis management strategy by the Federation of Sri Lankan Local Government Authorities.
The capacity- building training programme collaborated with experts on the ODA and HDP Nexus, such as Mr. Kwak, Jae Sung (Institute of International Studies, Kyung Hee University) and Ms. Jo, Gyeasoo (Korea Overseas Development and Consulting).
In the training, UCLG ASPAC Secretary General, Dr. Bernadia Irawati Tjandradewi expressed her hope that participants could learn to operate the community-driven development project and set up an action plan for community development needs for peacebuilding issues in the region.
