Gunsan: Getting Ready for Gunsan Culture Art 2022

GUNSAN prepares to become culture and art-centred city together with the citizens. Last year, the city government put its utmost effort into preserving and spreading traditional culture by celebrating the 20th year of the relic system recording. The event also marked the Gunsan Night Walk project selected seven years in a row by the Cultural Heritage Administration. In 2022, the city will focus on sustainable developments of locals based on its pre-attained success.

Recharging City’s Culture and Art

The city promotes pre-designated culture city projects as selected as one of 11 top cities from a total of 49 local governments that applied the same project last year. The city will launch the culture city centre from February to March to achieve the task. The centre will nurture professional personnel regarding culture and weaving cultural stories. Cultural Heritage Administration granted 10 billion Korean Won including the national budget for five years to the pre-designated culture city. Moreover, the city plans to launch the ‘Gunsan Culture Foundation’ in half-late of this year to make culture art policies with local specials and actively support culture and art. There is also plan to expand the project gradually.

Revitalising Culture and Art for Citizens

Local culture art organisations set various art programmes, including performances to enliven the spirit from pandemic fatigue. To revitalise culture and arts in daily life, the city focuses on creating a vibrant town with healing performances for citizens, including various event plans organised by local culture and arts organisations and visiting cultural activities. Gunsan Cultural Heritage Night Tour is also preparing the utilization of cultural properties to provide more diverse cultural content and attractions. It helps to grow the local economy and offer meaningful time to the citizens as a night-time culture. In addition, it plans to actively develop and provide programmes to utilise cultural properties that can establish local identity and understand history and culture.
