Establishment Day of MuAN, Champion Municipalities Acknowledged, WASH MIS Dashboard Launch

March 12, 2024 | Nepal – The Municipal Association of Nepal (MuAN) has honored seven municipalities that have done excellent work on March 12, 2024, in Kathmandu.

On the 31st Establishment Day of the association, sub-metropolitan municipalities and municipalities were also honored in various categories. The Chief Guest of the Programme, Honorable Bhanubhakta Joshi, Minister of Federal Affairs and General Administration distributed the honors for programme organised by MuAN.

Ghorahi sub-metropolitan city of Dang, Butwal sub-metropolitan city of Rupandehi, Gaur municipality of Rautahat, Ratnanagar municipality of Chitwan, Godavari municipality of Lalitpur, Bhimdatta municipality of Kanchanpur and Chaurjahari municipality of Rukum have been honored. The evaluation was done by the Jury members of the Municipal Excellence Award Recommendation Committee. This Committee is represented by all sectoral Ministries and senior experts. Through evaluation done by Committee Members, Godavari Municipality has been honored for its excellent work in the field of urban planning, infrastructure development, and disaster management. Bhimdatta Municipality has also been awarded in the same category. The association has honored Ghorahi sub-metropolitan city for maintaining institutional reform and financial governance, and Butwal sub-metropolitan city for leaping local economic development. Similarly, the association honored Gaur municipality for doing excellent work in the field of social development. Ratnanagar Municipality and Chaurjahari Municipality have been awarded for their excellent work in forest environment and climate change and disaster risk management.

On the same occasion, MuAN also launched Municipal Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) Management Information System (MIS) Dashboard. This dashboard, will be part of MuAN WASH/FSM unit under Urban Resource Centre (URC) and will showcase a real time data of water sanitation and hygiene at each municipality level and ultimately the progress and contribution made by local governments in SDG Goal 6. WASH MIS is the system developed by the Ministry of Water Supply (MoWS), and the Department of Water Supply and Sewerage Management (DWSSM). Data input at the municipal level has been facilitated through the collaboration of MuAN and DWSSM/MoWS. In addition, the municipal level data collected through the Shit Flow Diagram (SFD) under the MuNASS Project of UCLG ASPAC supported by BMGF, will also be reflected in this WASH MIS Dashboard, especially focusing on the sanitation scenario and status of pro-poor communities.

At the same occasion, MuAN also held a national dialogue programme on climate change. The whole programme was chaired by MuAN President and UCLG ASPAC Co-President Mr. Bhim Prasad Dhungana while MuAN and UCLG ASPAC Immediate Past President, Mr. Ashok Kumar Byanju Shrestha, President of NARMIN, President of ADDCN and Chairman of National Natural Resources and Fiscal Commission (NNRFC), Mr. Balananda Poudel were among the speakers who address the Event with congratulatory remarks to MuAN on its achievements.
