20 November 2019 | JAKARTA – Member cities of UCLG ASPAC, Dalian and Jakarta, fostered their bilateral exchanges through a courtesy visit of Mr. Xiao Shengfeng, Chairman of Standing Committee of Dalian People’s Congress, at the Jakarta Capital City this month. Dalian’s delegation was warmly welcomed by Mr. Sutanto Soehodho, Jakarta Deputy Governor, senior officials and UCLG ASPAC Secretariat’s staff.
Like two friends meeting each other, Mr. Xiao and Mr. Sutanto had an interactive and optimistic discussion about the close ties between Indonesia and China, including at city level. They shared about the on-going work on city development and identified a broad range of areas to strengthen bilateral economic and trade relations, communication and people-to-people friendships between the two cities.
Mr. Xiao stressed that communication between high-level government officials of China and Indonesia in recent years have enhanced friendship and cooperation between the two nations. He pointed out that Dalian and Jakarta have many differences, and yet have much room to complement each other.
Mr. Xiao and Mr. Sutanto exchanged their views and mutual hopes that the two cities’ will enhance communication and cooperation in the fields of tourism, trade, environment protection, education and city infrastructure construction. Mr. Sutanto expressed that UCLG ASPAC provided an important platform for bilateral cooperation between the two cities, and that such achievement can be made not only between city governments, but also between local legislative organs and private sectors. Mr. Xiao welcomed the idea and proposed to put the areas identified for cooperation into practice. He believed that cooperation between Dalian and Jakarta can become a model for other cities in China and Indonesia in the future.
On behalf of UCLG ASPAC Secretary Dr. Bernadia Irawati Tjandradewi, Ms. Thanawan Klumklomchit, Head of Communication and Member Services, expressed sincere gratitude to the Deputy Governor for receiving the delegation, and also to Dalian’s delegation for paying a visit to Jakarta. Stressing the importance of cooperation between Mayors from China and Jakarta, she briefed the meeting about the recent important developments such as the elections of Dr. Li Mingyuan, the Mayor of Xi’an, as a Co-President of UCLG World and of Ms. Chen Yini, Vice Chair of Guangzhou Municipal Chinese People’s Political Consultative, as the Chair of UCLG ASPAC Standing Committee of Women in Local Government, respectively. She also informed about UCLG ASPAC’s coming important events such as the 8th UCLG ASPAC Congress in Zhengzhou in 2020, and invited Dalian and Jakarta for joint collaboration.
