AS in most regions, cities and local governments in Southeast Asia have seen a positive impact on vaccines, including slowing down transmissions, protecting people from severe sickness, and averting the collapse of the healthcare systems. Despite knowing they are not a cure, vaccines have given people time to maintain health precautions against this fatal illness.

To showcase the development of vaccines in Southeast Asia, “Our World in Data,” a platform that focuses on tremendous and terrifying issues worldwide, has come up with updated data showcasing the number of vaccinated citizens in Southeast Asian countries. The coronavirus pandemic data is updated daily. To illustrate the point, take a look at the chart below showcasing updated vaccination performance among countries in Southeast Asia.

The bar chart shows the number of people vaccinated against covid-19 in the Southeast Asia region per April 2022. The chart shows that Vietnam and Thailand stand in the 2nd and 3rd most vaccinated countries covering 79.95 and 55.86 million people respectively. On the other hand, Myanmar and Malaysia have relatively the same vaccinated citizens. Also, Laos and Singapore have been sharing slightly the same number with more than 5 million vaccinated citizens. Besides, with a total population of 17 million people, Cambodia has more than 14 million people vaccinated. It indicates that more than 88% of Cambodian citizens have been vaccinated up to this date.

For the top contender, Indonesia makes up the majority of vaccinated citizens, while Timor Leste and Brunei Darussalam have become the least vaccinated people in the region. It is understandable due to the considerably different number of people these two countries have.

With ASEAN cities and countries getting ready for a better tomorrow, UCLG ASPAC has been preparing a platform to support the ASEAN city leaders in moving forward. ASEAN Mayors Forum (AMF) 2022 will be organised in Surabaya from 5 to 7 October 2022 and tentatively in Phnom Penh in November 2022. With better conditions ahead, the upcoming AMF will be the most anticipated event among city leaders in ASEAN looking forward to developing their city more.
