UCLG ASPAC Signed a MoU with Sindh Provincial Parliamentary Taskforce on SDGs

4 February 2020 | SINDH – Provincial Parliamentary Taskforce on SDGs, Sindh and UCLG ASPAC inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to provide technical collaboration and support in joint actions of policy and research for evidence-based legislation through Provincial Assembly of Sindh. The cooperation would help accelerate the progress on localisation of SDGs and ensure an effective parliamentary oversight.

The MoU was signed by the convener, Provincial Parliamentary Taskforce on SDGs, Sindh Barrister Pir Mujeeb-ul-Haq and LEAD for SDGs Localisation Programme’s Team Leader and representative of UCLG ASPAC, Mr. Ali Imran. The MoU signing ceremony was attended by officials of Sindh Assembly Secretariat and members of civil society.

In this occasion, Barrister Mujeeb said that the collaboration among UCLG ASPAC, Local Council Association of Sindh – a representative body of local councils in Sindh, and the taskforce has a significant value and can be termed as key step towards strengthening the local governments on the 2030 Agenda. He wished the partnership will bring real change in bridging gaps between government tiers with the support and experiences of UCLG ASPAC. Sindh’s local government system will be further strengthened by enhancing capacities of our local governments, modelling international best practices and effective solutions for improved service delivery on the doorstep of each citizen.

The collaboration will also support joint actions of policy, advocacy and capacity building of parliamentarians and local government representatives as well as foster coordination between the parliamentarians and local governments for improved collaboration of development, planning as well as identifying and addressing policy and legislative gaps. UCLG ASPAC will be assisting in analysing data, situation and challenges for an effective oversight of localisation and mainstreaming the SDGs by translating Sindh’s Provincial Framework on SDGs to locally-aligned SDGs planning and development.
