1 September 2021 | PROMOTIONAL efforts for the 7th UCLG World Congress to be hosted by the City of Daejeon in 2022 have been started. After the virtual signing agreement with the UCLG World back in July 2021, the City started the preparation needed, from the provision of the venue, staff employment, domestic promotion, to member invitation and registration. As for promotion, Mr. Chung Chae Gun, Secretary General of Daejeon UCLG Organising Committee, held a meeting to discuss ways to effectively publicise the Congress to citizens.
The Citizen Reporters’ Group of 2022 Daejeon UCLG World Congress consists of some 20 citizens who are active users of social media such as blogs, YouTube, and Instagram. The selected age group ranges from the 20s to 60s with various occupational groups, including college students, office workers, housewives, and writers.

Daejeon is promoting the UCLG World Congress to all Korean cities beyond Daejeon. At the 5th World Smart City Expo held at KINTEX, Ilsan, Gyeonggi Province from 8 to 10 September), it started promoting the UCLG World Congress to smart city related officials and citizens across the country.
Under the theme of ‘Smart City Becomes Reality’, the exhibition was the largest international smart city event in the Asia-Pacific region where governments, firms, and experts from all over the world gather to exchange smart city policies and technology, taking steps closer to the reality of future cities. Here, Daejeon introduced its smart city challenge services such as unmanned drone safety net service.
Daejeon’s Vice Mayor of Science, Kim Myung Soo, said, “Daejeon is striving to foster a leading smart city,” adding, “We ask for your interest and support, as we are planning to showcase various smart city technologies during the 2022 7th UCLG World Congress.”
