Shijiazhuang city (China) has a longstanding connection with rock music. The name of Shijiazhuang city itself can be literally translated into “Rock Home Town” in English. “Shi” for the “Rock”, “Jia” for the “Home” and “Zhuang” for the “Town”. It is the birthplace of Popular Songs, China’s first rock magazine, and the influential I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll, both hold a significant place in China’s rock music history.
In 2023, Shijiazhuang city also officially launched its initiative to become the “Rock Home Town.” The city hosted over 130 renowned rock bands, organised more than 100 public benefit rock concerts, and attracted extensive attention from domestic and international media, including Lianhe Zaobao from Singapore and numerous social media platforms, giving the “Rock Home Town” brand a strong debut.
Since 2024, Shijiazhuang has held over 200 rock performances, drawing more than one million attendees. Large-scale concerts, such as the Hutuohe Art Ecological Island Music Festival and the MTA Hutuo Music Festival, have further ignited the passion for rock music, solidifying Shijiazhuang’s distinctive feature of “Rock Home Town.” These events vividly showcase the city’s openness, inclusiveness, vibrancy, and confidence.
