September 2022 | UCLG ASPAC, as the Secretariat of ASEAN Mayors Forum (AMF), a local government entity accredited by ASEAN, supportsthe ASEAN Chairmanship 2022 hosted by the Government of Cambodia “ASEAN A.C.T, Addressing Challenges Together” through the organisation of AMF Summit 2022. The summit, the first AMF on-site gathering after the pandemic, will be the pinnacle of the Consultative Meeting, set as a side event of EAROPH World Congress 2022, October 6-7, 2022, in East Java, Indonesia, taking the theme “Achieving Smart, Resilient, and Sustainable Urbanisation through ASEAN Cooperation in the New normal.”
Throughout the two-day Consultative Meeting, city leaders from the ASEAN Member States will elaborate on issues concerning challenges faced and at the same time cultivate opportunities to move towards smart, resilient, and sustainable cities in the new normal. Through meaningful exchanges in the Consultative Meeting, mayors will have ample opportunities to set the foundation for a commitment declared in the AMF Summit 2022.
Ensuring meaningful gathering and a stronger commitment to collaboration, AMF Secretariat has initiated a preliminary dialogue with the Permanent Representatives of ASEAN Countries, including H.E. Ambassador Yeap Samnang (the Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Cambodia to ASEAN) on September 1, 2022, and Ms. Elizabeth T. Te (the Permanent Mission of the Philippines to ASEAN) on September 15, 2022. Each country expressed their full support for the organisation of both events.
The ASEAN Mayors Summit will be organised in Phnom Penh in December 2022, taking the momentum of the 2022 ASEAN Summit hosted by the Government of Cambodia. Mayors’ Declaration will be produced and proposed to the Secretary General of ASEAN. We call out ASEAN City Leaders to get ready for the AMF Consultative Meeting in Surabaya and succeed in the ASEAN Mayors Summit 2022 in Phnom Penh!
