The countdown has begun. In less than eight months, UCLG ASPAC will hold the 6th Congress in the beautiful Jeollabuk-do, Republic of Korea. The Congress will bring together around 1,000 participants on 5-8 September 2016, making it an unparalleled meeting and networking opportunity for UCLG ASPAC members, international organizations and UN-affiliated organizations.
“I warmly invite mayors, governors, and partners to attend the 2016 UCLG ASPAC Congress in Jeollabuk-do. The main theme of the Congress is Regions, Life and Culture in the New Urban Agenda,” said the Governor of Jeollabuk-do, Mr. Song Ha-jin. “Let’s not miss this opportunity to share our ideas and information, and reaffirm our commitments towards sustainable development,” he added.
Organized by UCLG ASPAC and the Jeollabuk-do Government, and supported by the Governors Association of Korea, the Congress will take place at the Gunsan Saemangeum Convention Center (GSCO) and other areas in the Province.
“The theme of this Congress is crucial as the world will soon adopt the New Urban Agenda. Regions, Life and Culture will help us rethink on how we can make our dream of humanist regions and cities with the people as a centre of development a reality. Unquestionably, culture is the main pillar in sustainable development that brings life, soul and tolerance to our diverse society,” said UCLG ASPAC Secretary General Dr. Bernadia Irawati Tjandradewi.
This most anticipated event in the Asia-Pacific local governments’ calendar will feature a diverse programme, including the Executive Bureau and Council Meetings, General Assembly, Session Meetings and a Study Visit. Local authorities will also get to promote their regions and activities in a dedicated exhibition area. Moreover, participants will have the chance to experience the lovely Jellabuk-do in autumn – thanks to a series of tour, including the cozy village farm tour, the varicolored natural ecological tour and the fragrant traditional culture tour.
Registration for the Congress is set to open in February. Find out more about the Congress in the brochure here [http://issuu.com/uclg-aspac/docs/final_brochure_-_jeollabukdo_congre].
