UCLG ASPAC welcomes its New Secretary General, Dr. Bernadia Irawati Tjandradewi, who has been appointed to her post starting from 1 July 2013. She has been working in urban development and related fields for more than 15 years and has a strong portfolio of experience in local governance and development goals and capacity building of local governments.
On taking up her post, Dr. Bernadia says, “In UCLG ASPAC, I hope to enable activities that can produce tangible results for its members, particularly in its advocacy efforts – after all, local governments are the most effective players in bringing changes to its citizens and communities. During my term, I plan to enhance our cooperation with regional associations, ASEAN, SAARC, UNESCAP and various other institutions. It is my long time dream to create a more prosperous and vibrant Asia-Pacific region. I assure our best efforts to and our close working relations with every member of UCLG ASPAC and partners. I look forward to their active engagement so that together we will build a much stronger network of local governments and communities.
Dr. Tjandradewi has received her Master degree in Atmospheric Physics from Nagoya University, Japan, a second Master degree in Public Policy from National University of Singapore, and a Ph.D in Urban Engineering from the University of Tokyo, Japan. She is a visiting professor at various universities in Japan, has written various papers, and been a speaker in many forums.
