Sejong City was designated as a special zone for autonomous driving and has undertaken various autonomous driving test projects. However, the data generated from these tests has not been effectively utilised. To address this, the Sejong Autonomous Vehicle Big Data Control Centre has secured 9 PB of storage space to collect and store big data related to autonomous driving. It also provides free access to various analysis tools and software, aiming to revitalise the autonomous driving industry ecosystem in Sejong City. This initiative benefits not only startups lacking the data and equipment necessary for research but also the broader industry.
With public interest in autonomous driving on the rise, concerns about the safety of autonomous vehicles have also increased. Ensuring safe autonomous driving requires more than just advanced vehicle capabilities; a standardised road infrastructure and control system capable of real-time traffic information exchange are essential. The Sejong Autonomous Vehicle Big Data Control Centre contributes to safety by providing critical information through standardised messages.
Main Roles
- Data Collection
The centre collects real-time data (PVD) from vehicles communicating with the infrastructure, as well as sensor data (videos, LiDAR), and accumulates integrity-assured data through a series of processing steps.
- Data Provision
It supplies training data for autonomous driving to industry, academia, and research sectors developing autonomous driving technologies.
- Open Lab Provision
The centre offers office environments and development software programmes to data analysts and technology development engineers.
- Testbed Role
It provides RSUs for data communication and testbeds for vehicle verification and component development.
By ensuring the stable operation of the Sejong Autonomous Vehicle Big Data Control Centre, local government of Sejong aims to establish Sejong City as the nation’s leading hub for the commercialisation of autonomous mobility.
