CITY of Daejeon will host the upcoming 2022 Daejeon UCLG World Congress. With the vision of the Future of Sustainable Cities: Global Urban Community, Daejeon will focus on: building world peace; sustainable smart cities; decentralisation and public participation; and K-Festival and global communication.
Daejeon is also seeking an opportunity to invite delegations from North Korea in cooperation with the UCLG World Secretariat. The participation of the North Korean delegates to the Daejeon UCLG World Congress will contribute to building of peace in the world. Therefore, the Summit will be an important moment to showcase the potential of local and regional governments as peacebuilders.
To ensure flawless hosting of the Congress, Daejeon is also in preparation of the establishment of the organising committee. Besides the official meetings, the City is planning to have various events, including exhibition on smart city, a site visit to the Korean Demilitarised Zone (DMZ), study tours to research institutions and tour programmes for accompanying partners.
Not to be missed
The Smart City Exhibition will be held in the second exhibition hall of the Daejeon Convention Centre in line with the World Congress. The Exhibition will present the image of smart cities in the post-COVID-19 era, by displaying technologies and solutions related to smart cities. The Host City will also prepare a space for the participants to experience those smart city-related technologies and Korean traditional culture.
A site visit to the DMZ is also planned to provide an opportunity for the participants to look around Panmunjom (Joint Security Area) and Dora Observatory, where you can see and experience the current situation of the divided country.
Through study tours to research institutes including the Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI), the Korea Institute of Machinery & Materials (KIMM) and the Korea Institute of Fusion Energy (KFE), participants will have the chance look around the City of science, including a trial run in magnetic levitation train.
In addition, tour programmes for accompanying partners will also be prepared in order to present Korean history and traditional culture by touring Daejeon and nearby cities such as Gongju and Buyeo, which have historical and cultural attractions.
Daejeon welcomes UCLG members and partners to the 7th UCLG World Congress in 2022.
