THE city of Seoul hosts the ICLEI World Congress 2015 happening from 8th to 9th April, 2015. Over 1,000 leaders of local governments, mayors, representatives of civic groups, and citizens from around the world are going to convene at the event to pool their collective wisdom for greater sustainability, wellbeing and prosperity of the globe.
The ICLEI World Congress 2015 will take place prior to five months before the intended adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals by the UN General Assembly.
Hopefully, the ICLEI World Congress 2015 runs with a stand-alone urban Sustainable Development Goal; eight months before the nations aim to conclude a global climate agreement through the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.
The ICLEI World Congress 2015 will reaffirm the strong commitment of local governments to tackle climate change and advance sustainability and present its outcome to the international climate community.
Hopes
“I also hope that the ICLEI World Congress 2015 will allow us to develop a network for global cooperation, ” said Seoul Mayor Won Soon Park.
“The ICLEI World Congress 2015 will make clear just what can be achieved when these figures are empowered with knowledge and capacity. It will give leaders from all of our Member cities, towns and regions a chance to meet people in similar situations, facing similar challenges. These kinds of connections are more important than ever,” hoped David Cadman, ICLEI President (2006-2015)
“We hope that the ICLEI World Congress 2015 will be a launch pad for a new phase of global sustainable development based on concrete local actions. Let’s celebrate our efforts so far and look ahead to more bold initiatives,” added Yeonhee Park, ICLEI Korea Office Director. (MH)
