New Taipei City is home to nearly 800,000 residents aged 65 and up. To highlight recent efforts in healthy aging and senior care, the city has jumped on the reality-show trend to create the first senior reality programme, Seniors Level Up. A total of six episodes have been produced, with the premiere scheduled for Senior Citizens’ Day on October 29th.
Participating seniors are all regular members of elder-focused programmes. Supporting seniors to stay active within their communities is a top priority for New Taipei’s senior services. The new show invites a diverse lineup of entertainers and influencers, making for an intergenerational and cross-platform cast. Together, the cast heads into nature to tackle challenges such as paddle-boarding, river tracing, and curling.
Participants Chen Chao-ming and Tang Li-ling shared that the programme gave them a strong sense of accomplishment while showing the vitality of their community. According to the city’s Social Affairs Department, the show aims to convey the spirit of “It’s not aging, it’s leveling up,” encouraging seniors to embrace all stages of life and try new things, all while showcasing their diverse potential.
The city continues to promote policies for senior care and healthy aging. To date, the city has established 1,827 “Silver Clubs” and 625 community care stations, with over 230,000 seniors participating in 5,824 “Silver Strength” classes, turning New Taipei into a leading destination for senior living.
