AMID the hectic events and sessions during the 6th Asia Pacific Urban Forum, UCLG ASPAC and Seoul Human Resource Development Center (SHRDC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding formalizing both organizations’ intent to cooperate in developing international training programs in the field of urban sustainability to support local and regional governments.
Prior to the signing ceremony, a first training workshop on “Sustainable Mobility” was co-organized and jointly designed by UCLG ASPAC and SHRDC. The training was held in Seoul, South Korea, from 1 – 9 September 2015 and was attended by Indonesian local government transport officials. Lectures on Seoul’s experience on sustainable transport, study visits, and peer-to-peer exchange were expertly facilitated. Returning to their cities in Indonesia, the participants bring back not only knowledge that they can use and adopt in their city planning, but also an agreement to organize a Local Government Transport Officer Forum which will serve as a platform to come together and exchange best practices in sustainable transportation and to support one another in improving mobility.
UCLG ASPAC Secretary General Dr. Bernadia Irawati Tjandradewi shared about her expectations on the partnership, while SHRDC President Joon-Ho Ahn recalled Seoul’s urban transformation that many cities can look up to as a model. Several APUF participants witnessed the signing, along with UCLG ASPAC and SHRDC staff.
