UCLG ASPAC’s Secretary General Dr. Bernadia Irawati Tjandradewi, accompanied by the Secretariat’s staff, met the new Vice Governor of Jakarta, Mr. Djarot Saiful. The meeting took place in Jakarta City Hall on 2 February 2015 in order for the Secretariat to give updates on UCLG ASPAC’s activities.
During the meeting, the Secretary General welcomed Jakarta to benefit from the opportunity of being the host of UCLG ASPAC. Mr. Djarot thanked for the information provided by UCLG ASPAC and responded by saying that Jakarta needs to focusing on some areas, which are useful for the community and the people and are siginificant for the Capital City.
The intended areas are namely Waste Management, Bureaucracy Reformation (e-budgetting) and Jakarta’s Training Center (DIKLAT). In the terms of the Training Center, it has to be optimally used to organise activities, from where big cities in the region could share their experiences and best practices.
Mr. Djarot also advised to involve the Ministry of Home Affairs in the matter of the Training Center.
Secondment from South Korea
On the occasion, the Secretary General also introduced UCLG ASPAC’s Secondment from Changwon, Mr Lim Youngmork, and informed that the Secretariat will shortly have another Secondment from the Seoul Metropolitan Government.
Dr. Bernadia Tjandradewi shared that Changwon has a best parctice on Bicycle Network and she welcomed Jakarta to learn and benefit from the Secondment of Seoul in the Secretariat, as this could bring to the development of a sister city program between Jakarta and Seoul.
Before concluding the meeting, Mr. Djarot asked the Assistant Secretary for Development and Environment Mr. Oluan who also joined the meeting, to further follow up with UCLG ASPAC on the issues discussed in the meeting. Two representatives from the Bureau of Gubernatorial and International Cooperation of Jakarta also attended the meeting.
