Mayor Tanya Taylor was re-elected for the second time to lead Willoughby City Council in October 2024. As the third female mayor in Willoughby, Mayor Tanya is keen to champion Willoughby as a place where people can live, work, and play in a connected, sustainable, and vibrant community. Prior to serving as a local leader, Mayor Tanya was announced as Willoughby City Council Citizen of the Year in 2020. Becoming a city leader, Mayor Tanya advocates for the delivery of appropriate infrastructure, affordable housing and community services. Her works remain committed to her vision in improving local area.
One of the highlights is the “Hi Neighbours” programme, a project designed (in August 2022) to foster connected and resilient apartment communities by encouraging residents to establish relationships with their neighbours. The initiative, since inception, has brought apartment dwellers closer together, creating a stronger sense of belonging and community. The effort has been honoured with a Highly Commended Award for Community Development among Councils with a population under 150 thousand at the prestigious NSW Local Government Excellence Awards (2023).
Willoughby Council also takes pride in the city’s efforts to become green, connected, inclusive, and liveable. Towards green city, Willoughby, under the leadership of Mayor Tanya, improved environmental management for Middle Harbour and Lane Cove River catchment areas. The city also completed 16 park and playground improvement projects and modernised the aquatic and recreation facilities. To be connected and inclusive, the city has upgraded 40 bus stops to improve accessibility, and car park with new parking management technology, and commenced Disability Inclusion Action Plan (2022-2026). To become liveable, the city started the approval process for affordable housing, created community garden, modernise aquatic and recreation facilities and services, as well as completed 16 parks and playground improvement projects.
