Mayor Donya Tesoro: Care-Giver Leader

MAYOR Donya Tesoro of San Manuel is elected in 2019 as the youngest mayor. Throughout her leadership, Mayor Donya Tesoro expressed her passion and care for local people in various programmes implemented in San Manuel.

San Manuel Social Pension Programme

Mayor Donya shared her activity on social media, such as giving out a social pension payout for those senior citizens (aged 73 years old and above). In the upcoming years, they will gradually lower the age of target beneficiaries to be able to cover more senior citizens. Many people applauded and felt grateful for this.

Children’s Feeding Programme

Mayor Donya also pays great attention to children. Along with other councilors, they provided rice bowls and drinks for the kids and distributed them in person. She interacted with the kids and take pictures together. A lot of people supported her and this programme.

Resolving COVID-19 Breakouts

Raising Awareness –

Mayor Donya uses her social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter to raise awareness of her surroundings. She often posts about the restrictions and prohibitions in handling the COVID-19 situation on her social media. Some of them are age restrictions, implementing one entrance and exit policy, working hours, and venues used for events, including isolation and quarantine information. Moreover, being a leader herself, she consistently shows a good example for the constituents to follow her.

Relief Goods for Constituents –

In facing the crisis in San Manuel due to COVID-19, she immediately takes action by providing groceries and relief goods. She helped with the packaging process and handed them down to society on her own.

Despite her young age, she understands her responsibilities as a mayor. She maximises the utility of social media to show her people what she has been doing and the town has changed a lot. It is common that people tend to put trust in senior candidates, especially those who are male, but Mayor Donya breaks that stereotype. She has proven that age and gender do not affect one’s ability to lead.
