Mayor Cristy Angeles of Tarlac: Woman of Action and Untiring Service

Mayor Maria Cristina Cuello Angeles is the Mayor of Tarlac City, the most populous area of the Tarlac Province, the Philippines. Her leadership improves many aspects of the city and is acknowledged by many.

Mayor Cristina Angeles has been known by Tarlaquenos, the local people of Tarlac, as a woman of action and untiring service. Under her leadership, the city reported a remarkable increase in revenues in quarry and market collections and an increase in income of the city (balancing the 103.9 million cash deficit from the previous administration). She has also initiated various programmes benefitting local people, such as the provision of free school bags with complete school supplies for 43,500 pupils of Tarlac City, and the opening of several alternate routes to improve traffic flow around the city, offering six types of scholarship, and the installation of Aksyon Anghel 24/7 Emergency Response Team.

Mayor Maria Cristina Angeles, through the local government of Tarlac, also puts great concern on the education sector, such as through the provision of tablet and internet allowance for more than 600 college scholars, grant of monthly allowance to local school board teachers, transfer of donated and land titles from local government to public schools, complete uniform, free accommodation, and food allowance for Tarlac City Athletes, and recognition and cash incentives for students who excelled in various local and international competitions.

Under the leadership of Mayor Maria Cristina Angeles, Tarlac City, for the first time, has its hospital. She mentioned that it is the priority of the government to ensure the provision of health services to the people. She led the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the Tarlac City General Hospital located in Barangay Binaunganan in mid-2023. “With this hospital, there would be no more need for people to go or be referred to the health facilities in neighbouring areas,” she said. The commitment of Mayor Maria in the field of health was also acknowledged with the “Safety Seal” award for the city for its better safety and health protocols against coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
