According to the United Nations, 2020 marks the highest number of countries with violent conflict in the last 30 years. Moreover, the number of people being killed in battle has also increased 10 times since 2005. Due to the significant increase of Violence and conflict, prevention is more necessary than ever.
One of many approaches to tackle those issues is the Humanitarian, Development and Peace (HDP) Nexus, which has been recommended by the United Nations in 2015. Acknowledging the importance of the HDP Nexus implementation, Gyeonggi incorporated with UCLG ASPAC established the HDP Nexus Committee in June 2021.
In order to give more detailed understanding, Gyeonggi and UCLG ASPAC will conduct an informational meeting to explain the objectives and significance of the HDP Nexus Committee on August 25th, 2021.
The actions surely need the involvement of local government, since local government holds a crucial role in implementing the SDGs and an actor for horizontal integration among local governments in Asia Pacific. Therefore, the objective of the informational meeting is also to find out the ways to cooperate with local governments from Southeast Asia countries in conceptualizing and implementing this HDP Nexus Project.
The informational meeting will be conducted virtually via Zoom from 15.00 – 18.00 KST (GMT+10) with Korean and English Sessions. The meeting will at least highlight the background of the establishment of UCLG ASPAC HDP Nexus Committee, the expected effects, definition of functions and membership, the example of discovering, planning, and implementation of an international development cooperation project by a local government based on the HDP Nexus Approach.
