TOGETHER with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN-ESCAP), our organization –the United Cities and Local Governments Asia-Pacific (UCLG ASPAC)—has been actively promoting the so-calledIntegrated Resource Recovery Centers (IRRCs). This is an activity that both parties try to implement.
The project is designed as a serial activity, following a national workshop on Pro-Poor and Sustainable Solid Waste Management in Secondary Cities and Small Towns: Prospects for the Application of Anaerobic Digestion to Treat Municipal Solid Waste in Indonesia previously held last December 2014.
The project aims at converting the organic fraction of municipal solid waste into biogas through the process of anaerobic digestion.
Both parties — UCLG ASPAC and its partner UN-ESCAP – have just finished their baseline survey in their selected cities: Malang City, Malang Regency and Probolinggo –all in East Java Province—and Jambi in Sumatra. These four cities were shortlisted following the above workshop
This baseline has been implemented since February to April 2015 and its result is expected to provide technical reference to choose only one city where the IRRCs could be finally implemented into force. (GAP)
