Professor Shin Gyonggu, Executive Director of the Gwangju International Center, together with Jang Soo-Jin, from the Human Rights & Peace Cooperation Office of the Gwangju Metropolitan Government, recently visited the Secretariat. The purpose of the visit was to give information on the fifth World Human Rights Cities Forum (WHRCF 2015), to be held in Gwangju Metropolitan City in May 15 to 18, 2015. The theme will be “Towards a Global Alliance of Human Rights Cities for All II”.
WHRCF had been held annually with the attendance of major figures in the field of human rights and parties interested in human rights, to build a human rights city. Following but still connected with the theme of the fourth World Human Rights Cities Forum in 2014, the fifth Forum will cover relevant topics more extensively and work towards establishing comprehensive human rights governance.
The UCLG Committee on Social Integration, Participatory Democracy and Human Rights worked together with the Gwangju International Center as the co-organizers of the event.
The Gwangju Metropolitan Governmenthopes that more UCLG ASPAC members can get to know about the event and participate in the forum. Note that the organizing committee last year, provided the participating mayors with economy class round-trip airfare in addition to the accommodation. Whereas the participating local government officials got an accommodation during the forum period. Prof. Shin said that the support in 2015 would be similar to what was given in 2014.
