In July 2026, Goyang, Republic of Korea, launched a new initiative to strengthen collaboration between local universities, industries, and research institutions to foster future industries and high-quality jobs. The initiative focuses on aerospace, Urban Air Mobility (UAM), autonomous driving, and biotechnology.
A key project is the establishment of the Aerospace Industry-Academia Convergence Centre, which will support research and development, professional training, technology transfer, and start-ups in aerospace and UAM. At the same time, Goyang is developing the K-UAM Metropolitan Demonstration Centre near KINTEX to test future air mobility services and build an innovation ecosystem for next-generation transportation.
The city is also expanding partnerships with local universities. Together with Joongbu University, Goyang is promoting autonomous driving and future mobility technologies. In cooperation with Dongguk University and seven major hospitals, the city is strengthening its biotechnology sector through joint research, commercialisation, and talent development.
Like many cities, Goyang faces the challenge of creating quality employment while retaining young talent and adapting to rapidly changing technologies. We believe strong collaboration among local governments, universities, industries, and research institutions is essential to building resilient local economies.
