Nothing is more exciting from a workshop and training session in Seoul rather than establishing Local Government Transport Officer Forum, a new platform for Indonesian officials at the national and regional level to address escalating challenges of transportation in urban areas. The move was officially established in the capital city of Seoul, Republic of Korea, in the end of 10-long day training for scores of Indonesian government officials hosted by Seoul Metropolitan City Government.
This training is the first ever made by Seoul Metropolitan Government for Indonesian government officials. Long prepared by Younggyu-kang, a secondee from Seoul Metropolitan Government in UCLG ASPAC, the program is finally made into force early September 2015 where a number of Indonesian government officials are invited to participate.
The establishment of this forum aims to serve as a platform for local government at the national and regional level as well as relevant stakeholders. This forum is generated from a capacity building program beyond training cooperation between Seoul Metropolitan Government and UCLG ASPAC.

This workshop and training program is a good opportunity to all members of UCLG ASPAC to generate benefits on capacity building, peer-to-peer learning, best practice sharing, championship in urban development agenda. All these are implementations of UCLG ASPAC’s advocacy on UN Habitat II and other global development agendas.
This forum is also considered as a corner stone for developing cooperation on impact-oriented capacity building program between UCLG ASPAC and SHRDC.

Tori Damantoro, mission chief of this program, represented UCLG ASPAC.

“With the spirit and vision for a people oriented urban transportation system, we believe that in pursuit of long term sustainability of our urban transportation system, there are more actions that have to be done, including engaging a wide scope of stakeholders, particularly beyond the transportation agencies.
Therefore, supported by UCLG ASPAC, we, the representatives of local governments hereby establish the organization of a Local Government Officer Forum to address escalating challenges of transportation in our urban areas.
The forum will serve as a platform for local government at the national and regional level, as well as relevant stakeholders, to come together to discuss and tackle the importance of continuing improvement of local capacity, peer to peer learning, sharing experiences and best practises among local government towards more sustainable transportation systems particularly in urban areas.”
