Dear Valued Members and Partners,
Since the outbreak of the 2019 novel coronavirus, recently named by the World Health Organisation (WHO) as COVID-19, cities in China have demonstrated significant resolve to overcome this challenge. China has been severely affected by the situation, in terms of the numbers of cases, deaths and geographical coverage. UCLG ASPAC city members in China are facing with shortage of medical facilities and equipment. Medical staffs and local authority officials who are at the forefront of this health emergency urgently need gears essential to perform their duties including 3-ply surgical face masks, medical N95 without valve, medical protective coverall clothing, protective goggles, and forehead thermometers. Many cities in China are also in dire need of other medical supplies for both treatment and protection of their citizens.
It is a critical time for cities in Asia and the Pacific region to express our solidarity with the people in China. We are inviting all UCLG ASPAC members to join the global responses to COVID-19, through your kind contribution of medical supplies, or, by sharing information on possible suppliers available in your city or country. Please kindly contact UCLG ASPAC Secretariat Office at: secretariat@uclg-aspac.org, to coordinate your contribution and support. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to let us know.
I thank you in advance for your consideration. I trust that our concerted efforts will not only help save lives of many. It will also enable effective response to the situation in China and the wider Asia-Pacific region.
