The session provides women mayors from all regions, an opportunity to highlight and celebrate their achievements. The Forum will focus on how women mayors have managed their cities regions differently, and provide a platform to share experiences of best practice. The Forum aims to emphasize that more woman mayors are critical for the transformational New Urban Agenda to be implemented at local level. The New Urban Agenda needs to be more inclusive and women friendly and have strong gender responsive components. The panel discussions focus on how women’s leadership at local level helps achieve this goal and how national governments also created an environment for supporting gender equality in the cities. The Forum will be open to public, providing an opportunity for the citizens in Surabaya to welcome mayors and delegates to their city.
