SEVERAL delegates from several countries around the world has just visited the beautiful architectural city of Barcelona, the capital province of Catalonia, Spain.
Barcelona recently hosted the international forum titled The 1st Retreat for UCLG Secretariats, Committees and Key Partners held next week on February 9-13, 2015.
As an organization that represents more than 7,000 local governments, UCLG ASPAC responded this event enthusiastically by sending two representatives, the UCLG ASPAC Secretary General Dr. Bernadia and the Strategic Services Manager Atik to attend the event.
The Secretary General of UCLG ASPAC points the importance of attending this international event, as more than only having the chance on meeting all the delegates from eight regions from all over the world.
Dr. Bernadia says, “The 1st Retreat for UCLG Secretariats, Committees and Key Partners is a valuable international forum where each region has the chance to share information and concerns in their country to be discussed”.
“Because this is the first event held, of course all the participants who attended have a big expectation that their voice can be heard. So we can use this opportunity to voice out our concerns and needs for the Asia Pacific region and at the same time, we can also hear the problems and concerns happening in other countries like Africa, Latin America, Europe and others,” adds this Doctor Graduate in Urban Engineering from University of Tokyo (2006) Knowing that this event is strategically important, Secretary General took long her Strategic Services Manager.
She responded this invitation enthusiastically “Its been a long time I have been wanting to join UCLG international event as well as meeting all colleagues around the world,” said this ITS Surabaya graduate.
According to Atik, this is the time for Asia Pacific Section that has been represented by UCLG ASPAC to earn information and insights from the Eight Section that can be used for developing the future program.
She said “That’s what we are focusing in the 1st Retreat of UCLG Secretariats, Committees and Key Partners, the cooperation amongst Section”
UCLG (United Cities and Local Governments) is worldwide association of cities and local governments and the only local government organization recognized by the United Nations. UCLG is meant to be the united voice and world advocate of democratic local self-government, promoting its values, objectives and interests, through cooperation between local governments and within the wider international community.
UCLG has officially been acknowledged by United Nations as official voice to represent united of local governments. From the nine regions of UCLG, Asia Pacific is the biggest section at UCLG with linkages to more than 7.000 local governments and incorporates economically fast developing countries such as China, India and Indonesia.
