PREPARING for the ASEAN Mayors Forum 2015 – the First Forum 2011 was held in Surabaya, to enhance cooperation among ASEAN cities towards the establishment of the ASEAN Community 2015. As a follow up on the results, UCLG ASPAC, supported by the Association of Indonesian Municipalities, the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia and the City Government of Makassar, will host the ASEAN Mayors Forum 2015 with the theme “One Vision, One Identity, One Community” in September this year.
The purpose of the 2nd ASEAN Mayors Forum is to discuss key policy frameworks and instruments, to facilitate knowledge sharing and mutual learning among mayors and a number of international organization working in the field of sustainable development, and to achieve stronger local governments in the ASEAN region. The forum will gather all local leaders from municipalities and towns, local government associations and other relevant partners.
The event will take place in the City of Makassar on 9-10 September 2015. UCLG ASPAC invites all members particularly within South East Asia to participate in the Forum. It is expected that the meeting can deliver tangible outputs leading for more robust collaboration among local authorities in the region. As the network of local governments in Asia Pacific, UCLG ASPAC is keen to promote and foster local partnership. The result of the Mayors Forum will be linked to the current on-going program of DELGOSEA.
