AGMF Secretariat Courtesy Visit to the Permanent Representative of Malaysia to ASEAN: Sustaining the Momentum toward the Shared Vision

November 14, 2025 | UCLG ASPAC, the Secretariat of ASEAN Government of Mayors Forum (AGMF), paid a courtesy visit to H.E. Ambassador Sarah Al Bakri Devadason, Permanent Representative of Malaysia to ASEAN. Following the successful AGMF 2025 held under Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship, which resulted in the Kuala Lumpur Sustainable Declaration on Localising ASEAN Community Vision 2045, the visit aimed to secure continued support from Malaysia as a Member State and to encourage its local governments to actively participate in AGMF, sustaining the momentum toward the shared Vision.

Noting that AGMF has been formally recognised as a major contributor to the localisation of ASEAN Community Vision (ACV) 2045, Dr. Bernadia reaffirmed that the Forum will continue to provide ample opportunities for local governments through constructive dialogue, substantive exchanges, and platforms for collaboration. She also shared updates on AGMF’s ongoing work in advocacy, capacity building, and knowledge sharing, as well as how the Forum integrates city and local government perspectives into cross-pillar initiatives.

H.E. Ambassador Sarah Al Bakri Devadason expressed Malaysia’s full support to AGMF in carrying out its mission to help local governments in Southeast Asia localise ACV 2045. In line with the discussion, the Ambassador underscored that effective collaboration between national authorities and local governments is essential to ensuring the successful implementation of the Vision, particularly in translating regional aspirations into concrete action at the local level.

On this occasion, AGMF Secretariat also conveyed its warm congratulations to Malaysia on the completion of its ASEAN Chairmanship. Dr. Bernadia expressed hope to deepen cooperation with Malaysia to help advance a stronger, more inclusive, and locally grounded regional agenda.
