The Agricultural Technology Centre of Sejong Special Self-Governing City (Director Pi Ok-ja) ran the School 4-H Career Exploration Programme from June to September 2026, concluding with a session at Sejong Girls’ High School on 17 September.
4-H is a hands-on character-education organisation that, through its motto of “Learning by Doing,” teaches young people about the importance of rural life and the environment and prepares them to lead in agriculture and their communities.
This year’s programme reached about 60 student members and teachers at three schools: Dajeong High School (June 10, 16 students), Hansol Middle School (August 26, 27 students), and Sejong Girls’ High School (September 17). It aimed to convey the professional value of agriculture to young people and give them an opportunity to explore careers in a range of agricultural fields.
Sessions introduced the roles and main projects of the Agricultural Technology Centre and 4-H, and shared information on agriculture-related occupations and on the future of farming. Young farmers active in the local community served as instructors, sharing how they became established in farming and their first-hand experiences. At Hansol Middle School, Yu Tae-uk, a young 4-H member, helped students explore their career options.
Hands-on activities differed by school. Students at Dajeong High School made potted flowering plants, students at Hansol Middle School built moss terrariums in glass jars, and students at Sejong Girls’ High School created companion plants using tissue-cultured seedlings.
“We hope that through this year’s School 4-H career exploration programme, students experienced the many faces of agriculture first-hand and were given a chance to think broadly about their own futures,” said Director Pi. “We will continue to offer a variety of School 4-H programmes that let young people experience the present and future of agriculture.”
