FLYING far from Jeju Island –the southernmost part of the Republic of Korea– Jeju Self Governing Province’s Governor Won Hee-ryong came to visit Jakarta and met his counterpart DKI Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja “Ahok” Purnama, last 4 November 2015. Both discussed various issues including efforts to boost eco-tourism in Kepulauan Seribu (Thousands Islands) as explained by Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama after meeting with Governor Won, the current President of UCLG ASPAC.

Addressing lessons learnt from Jeju Island that could be implemented in Kepulauan Seribu, Jeju Self Governing Province Govenor Won said that eco-tourism has been becoming Jeju’s most popular issue to discuss with his Jakarta counterpart Governor Ahok.
“We also discussed fishery and efforts to maintain sustainability of environment in Jeju Island,” explained Governor Won Hee-ryong.
During his short visit to the Jakarta City Hall and met DKI Jakarta Govenor Ahok, Jeju Self Governing Province’s Governor Won Hee-ryong was accompanied by H.E. Republic of Korean Ambassador Mr Young-sun Kim, UCLG ASPAC Secretary General Bernadia I. Tjandradewi.
On his capacity of UCLG ASPAC’s President, Governor Won Hee-Ryong also paid a short visit to UCLG ASPAC’s Secretariat Office and met local staff.
