It is no doubt that current efforts of disaster risk reduction must be amplified during the increase of climate-related disasters, and on the frontlines are city and local governments as the closest institution to communities in mitigating disasters and reducing vulnerability. In the face of rapid urban growth, UCLG ASPAC realises the urgency of building resilient communities, with its advocacy of DRR and the Making Cities Resilient (MCR2030) campaign over the past few years. Through peer learning, knowledge sharing on lessons learnt and DRR policy framework at the regional level, mayors could inspire others to work together by sharing best practices that can give a bigger impact on the community.
In this spirit, UCLG ASPAC and UNDRR as core partner in MCR2030, in collaboration with CLGF Pacific will hold a webinar that aims to:
- raise awareness on the DRR and Resilience aspect in the Pacific Region and highlight the role national associations of municipalities can play in accelerating local actions to drive long-term resilience and promoting collaboration between cities and national associations of municipalities under the MCR2030 initiative.
- strengthen the vertical integration between national and local governments on the DRR and Resilient development plan
- promote collaboration between cities and national associations of municipalities under the MCR2030 initiative.
- encourage members/cities to sign up for the MCR2030 through the online Dashboard (please click: https://mcr2030.undrr.org)
