The UCLG ASPAC Executive Bureau Meeting and GOLD III Workshop on “Decentralization & Local Public Services” were sucessfully held in Gwangju on 16-17 May 2013, in conjunction with the 2013 World Human Rights Cities Forum.
The major goal for the GOLD III workshop which was held on 16 May 2013 was to formulate recommendations for the GOLD III report which emphasis on the role of Local Governments in the governance of basis services and focuses on 5 sectors like potable water delivery, sanitation, liquid waste, solid waste, transport, and energy.
Five speakers from Japan, korea, China, Australia, and New Zealand provided presentations with a great wealth of information. Mr Masao Kikuchi delivered his presentation on “Socio-Economic Challenges for Public Services in Japan”, Mr Joseph Son on “Overview of Seoul Waterworks, Ms Wu Xiaoling on “Guangzhou: Building a Transit-oriented and Livable City”, Sascha Moge on “Thoughts on GOLD III ASPAC Chapter: A Note on Australian Local government”, and Mike Reid on “Basic Services in New Zealand”.
The Executive Bureau Meeting was held on 17 May 2013 and attended by more than 80 participants. It discussed issues important to the organisation and endorsed 11 cities and 21 individuals as new members.
