18 March 2022 | UCLG ASPAC and city of Hangzhou, lead city of Belt and Road Local Cooperation (BRLC) Committee, have extended collaboration of both parties in promoting good practices of cities. Conducted virtually, both parties expressed the same vision to promote innovative cooperation. Under the framework of the BRLC Committee, the research will focus on “Belt and Road” and international exchange activities.
Representing Hangzhou was Mr. Du Shigen, Deputy Secretary-General of BRLC Secretariat. He emphasised that the research plan is on the positive role that the Asian Games play in the internationalising process of the host cities, such as Jakarta, Bangkok, New Delhi, Incheon, and Busan. He also mentioned the possibilities of the research to align with the goal of promoting common prosperity amid high-quality development, and the practices of the countries along the Belt and Road in efforts to bridge the wealth gap and balanced development.
Meanwhile, Secretary General of UCLG ASPAC, Dr. Bernadia Irawati Tjandradewi in her remark, said, “I am confident with more activities and engagements, the BRLC Secretariat will benefit its members in the spirit of win-win cooperation. She quoted one Chinese Proverb, 一只蜂酿不成蜜,一颗米熬不成粥 – “Honey is not yielded by a single bee, while the porridge is not stewed with a grain of rice” to call for the exploration of new cooperation opportunities between the cities and countries along the Belt and Road through forums, exchange and cooperation activities with a view to achieving common development and prosperity. UCLG ASPAC and BRLC Secretariat have been working closely in extending the vision and mission of the committee into concrete action.
