December 9, 2024 | UCLG ASPAC Committee on The Belt and Road Local Cooperation (BRLC), in collaboration with the UCLG ASPAC Secretariat, organised an insightful sharing session on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) entitled “From Hangzhou to the World” on December 9, 2024, for Indonesian members. Attracting over 60 participants, including representatives from local governments, multinational corporations, and ESG experts, the dialogue connected local governments and private sectors in Indonesia to have a better understanding of the challenges and complexities faced by each party in implementing the ESG element.


Dr. Bernadia Irawati Tjandradewi, Secretary General of UCLG ASPAC, highlighted the pivotal role of ESG, the importance of collaboration, and how ESG contributed to addressing climate change. She also expressed gratitude to the BRLC Secretariat for facilitating the session, which served as a platform for dialogue and potential partnerships between local governments and the private sector. Mr. Miao Chengchao, Vice Chairman of BRLC, through a video message, underscored the importance of technical cooperation, mutual support, collaborative efforts, and accelerating cross-sector investment.
Discussions involved prominent figures, including Mr. Michael Chen, President Director of PT Hikvision Technology Indonesia; Mr. Jiang Xianzheng, Secretary-General of the General Association of Zhejiang Entrepreneurs Philanthropy Commission and Deputy Chief Editor of City Express Newspaper; Dr. Achilles Xu, Vice General Manager of PT. Hailiang Nova Material Indonesia; and Ms. Hailey Zhong, Representative of Alibaba Group.
There was also a pitching session, where city representatives presented innovative proposals to secure technical or financial support. Four local governments showcased their initiatives: Mayor Joune Ganda of North Minahasa Regency presented sustainable farming, Jambi City on waste management, Tangerang Regency on public spaces, and Wakatobi Regency on fisheries and tourism. This interactive segment highlighted localised strategies to tackle sustainability challenges.
