The United Cities and Local Government-Asia Pacific has awarded medals of honor and merit to the Vice President of the Philippine, Jejomar Binay in a simple ceremony at the Coconut Palace on Thursday.
UCLG- ASPAC Ambassador Peter Woods personally awarded the two medals, one gold for medal of honor and one silver for medal of merit, to Binay.Woods said the awards were given to Binay for his exemplary performance as Makati Mayor. He also handed over a certificate of citation to Binay. Binay is the third local official in Asia Pacific who received the medal of honor from the UCLG-ASPAC.
Woods said the awards were also given to Binay in recognition of his contribution to democracy when he fought through activism during the Marcos regime.
During a chat with Woods Binay said the award would have been even more significant had he been appointed as Interior and Local Government secretary, a position presently occupied by Mar Roxas who lost to Binay in the May 2010 elections.
