December 7, 2023 | Daegu – Daegu Metropolitan City hosted the 9th edition of the World Water Cities Forum (WWCF) under the theme of “Cooperation and Innovation among World Water Cities.”
Having established itself as one of the key main events of the Korea International Water Week (KIWW), WWCF, the flagship water event annually organised by the city government, has played a pivotal role in proposing a horizontal understanding of the importance of water and providing innovative solutions to global water challenges. This year’s event welcomed a total of 11 cities from 12 countries along with two non-governmental organisations.
There were three roundtable discussion sessions, the first of which was centered around the theme of “Response to the Climate Crisis.” The second session touched upon the theme of “Smart Water Management,” in which Vientiane, Ho Chi Minh, and Bandung elaborated on their instances of on-site smart water management applications. The last session was on the theme of “City to City Learning” in which Catalonia, Mikkeli, Batam, and Daegu engaged in extensive discussions on the possibility of knowledge transfer and undertaking cooperative water projects. In addition, Daegu City signed a Memorandum of Understanding for collaboration with Batam and Vientiane respectively to reinforce collaborative relationships in the water sector. It is expected that the MoU will lay the groundwork for further cooperative endeavours on a global scale. The forum served as an excellent occasion for water experts and relevant stakeholders from around the world to put their heads together and explore insights into practical and sustainable solutions to a wide variety of water-related challenges. Daegu City is keen on expanding its water network and cooperative partner cities in the water sector, so if this is of interest to you, feel free to reach out to the city government, and we will be more than happy to have you at the upcoming WWCF 2024 this year.
