The Hague Academy for Local Governance is organising several courses for local governance.
The first one is on Peace building and Local Governance on 27 May-7 June 2013 in The Hague. The course discuss how local authorities can contribute to social cohesion, security and conflict-prevention, and how they can strengthen basic services and create economic opportunities in a conflict-sensitive manner.
The course distills lessons from cases in Afghanistan, Burundi, South Sudan and the Balkans, apply theories and concepts to your own local context and discuss the impact of donor interventions on peace and stability.
The course is developed together with The Hague Institute for Global Justice.

The second one is Citizenship and Accountability on 17-28 June 2013 in The Hague.
This course discusses how municipalities can increase accountability towards their citizens and how they can stimulate involvement of civil society in the policy making process. The participation ladder will be discussed as well as the accountability chain and policies to promote integrity and transparency. You will go on study visits to municipalities, active citizen groups and participation projects in the field of urban planning, social cohesion and public security.

The third one is Summercourse Decentralisation and Local Governance
8 – 12 July 2013 in The Hague
This one-week summercourse is designed for professionals at donor and development organisations dealing with the design and implementation of decentralisation support processes. The course will provide you with the basic concepts of (fiscal) decentralisation and local governance and will increase your insight into different contexts, by applying the political economy analysis.
