UCLG ASPAC, collaborated for the first time with the Indonesian Stock Exchange (BEI) and the Foundation for the Innovation of Local Governments (YIPD) for a Seminar on “Alternative Financing and Creditworthiness for Cities and Provinces.” The event took place on December 4th, 2014 at the Indonesian Stock Exchange’s Office in Jakarta.
A number of Mayors and representatives from around 70 cities and provinces, as well as Indonesian local governments associations, NGOs and private companies were present on the day.
The Secretary General of UCLG ASPAC gave the opening remarks, together with the Director of BEI, Mr. Ito Warsito, the Advisor of YIPD, Ms. Erna Witoelar, the Chairman of the Regional Council, Mr. Irman Guzman, Mr. Muliaman D. Hadad, Chairman of Indonesia Financial Services Authority (OJK) and a Jakarta Capital City Government representative.
Speakers from various backgrounds were also invited, including representatives from Cities Development Initiative for Asia (CDIA), the National Development Planning Agency (BAPPENAS), the Ministry of Home Affairs of Indonesia and private companies.
The seminar aimed at giving ideas for alternative financing for local governments. It was an occasion to learn from each other and create a dialogue. The objective was also to explain what are the plans to be prepared to start an efficient alternative financing system. A similar workshop will also be planned at the regional level.
