Pangkalpinang: Inspired by Global Connections

IN the time where international dynamics strongly touch a city’s daily life, Pangkalpinang City of Indonesia took the initial step to build its global network. Seeing how the international dimension of UCLG ASPAC brings opportunities to its global outreach, the city is eyeing for an active participation in the organization.

“Our participation in UCLG ASPAC is part of our efforts to have a wider, and more colorful look of the world,” said Pangkalpinang Mayor, Muhammad Irwansyah. “It also serves as a way to build a network based on the value of friendship, through which we hope to get an access to information that paves the way to trans-sectors cooperation,” he added.

Being the capital of Bangka Belitung Islands Province, Pangkalpinang takes pride in its beautiful sceneries that bring tourism potential to the city. In developing its tourism industry, the city with a population of 191,900 accentuates its ethnic diversity, which offers cultural richness to visitors. It is not surprising that there the city’s social condition is known to have a high level of integration and tolerance, where the local easily accept ideas of development and changes. Celebrating its cultural diversity, Pangkalpinang currently has 40 arts and culture groups that actively participate in preserving the traditions in the city.
