GYEONGGI Province will host a two-day 2020 Korea Basic Income Fair conducted online from September 10 to 11 under the theme of basic income and local currency. This will be an umbrella event for various exhibitions and experiential festivals in which a large number of world-leading scholars and experts will discuss basic income. Besides, visitors can gain a comprehensive understanding of basic income policies.
Sneak-Peak and What to Expect
On the first day, Gyeonggi Province Governor Lee Jae-myung will present current results and a future vision of basic income policy during the online opening ceremony. In the afternoon, an inauguration ceremony for the launch of a local government council on basic income and a special talk about basic income will take place. Representatives of more than 40 Korean local governments that are promoting or preparing basic income policies will participate in the launching ceremony, both online and offline, to announce their visions for basic income policy. During the special talk, Governor Lee and Professor Jeremy Rifkin, a global economist and culture critic, will hold a discussion under the theme of “Post-COVID-19 Basic Income.”
On the second day, under the main theme of “A Fair and Sustainable World with Basic Income,” the International Basic Income Conference will be held online with the participation of 26 domestic and foreign scholars, local government officials, and heads of research institutes from more than 10 countries. Distinguished attendees will include Eduardo Suplicy, a former Senator of Brazil, Karen Jooste, a former South African lawmaker, and Anne Miller, co-founder of the Basic Income Earth Network (BIEN).
Experience Current Basic Income Policies including Disaster Basic Income and Basic Income Cases through the Online Virtual Exhibition Hall
The Basic Income and Local Currency Online Exhibition Hall of the 2020 Korea Basic Income Fair will be hosted online in the form of a virtual 3D exhibition hall accessible via PC or mobile. This main hall will consist of a total of 17 sections, including: Basic Income History Hall, which provides the historical background of the basic income agenda; Basic Income World View Hall; Disaster Basic Income Pavilion, which is made to introduce Disaster Basic Income policy in response to COVID-19; Basic Income Idea Contest; and Basic Income Film Festival, which showcases innovative basic income concepts.
